Leading Thoughts

IShared DEAS has the power to expand perspectives, change thinking, and move lives. Here are two ideas for the curious mind to engage:

I am.

Simon Reynolds how ambiguity leads to failure:

“The average person does not have a clear purpose, and that is why people are average. It is not unusual to see people who work 12 hours a day and still do not get anything done. Why? At the heart of it, their lack of clarity about the best use of their time leads them to work on what is urgent, not what is important. A foggy purpose always leads to mediocre results, no matter how intelligent.

II.

Kobe Bryant on the focus needed to be a champion:

“Basketball, for me, is the most important thing. So everything I see, whether it’s TV shows, whether it’s books I read, people I talk to—everything is done to learn how to be a better basketball player. Everything. Everything. So when you have that point of view, the world becomes your library to help you get better at your craft.

“What I found in the NBA was a lot of guys who played for financial stability. When they got to the NBA, they got financial stability, so the passion, work ethic, and observability disappeared. I looked at that, and I said, ‘It’s like taking candy from a kid. No wonder Michael Jordan won all these championships.’ It’s crazy. And then there are players who have that passion but aren’t willing to commit their whole life to doing that. It’s a choice. You’ve got other things. You’ve got a family, and you’ve got all these things you have to do. The game can’t really be your number-one priority. I look at that, and I’m like, it’s fun.”
